“The lawns and gardens are stunning and a perfect location to have a marquee. We got married at Wherwell church next door and it was lovely for our guests to walk through the gate, under the pergola covered with flowers and to be greeted by a glass of champagne. There were so many great spots for photographs, it was impossible to use them all! ” James & Vicky
By organising your wedding at Wherwell Priory you are able to put your own special stamp on the celebrations. The venue is a blank canvas on which to build your own concept. You can:
- choose what kind of marquee you have – traditional or tepee style; how many you have, how they are arranged; and how they are decorated inside.
- you can decide what kind of catering you provide – fine dining, hog roasts, pizza ovens, cocktail trolleys, ice cream vans and much more.
- you can select from a variety of entertainments to keep your guests amused while the photographs are taken; fairground games, or croquet, or street performers.
- and you can choose any theme.
Idyllic historic site
Wherwell Priory is situated in an idyllic setting on a hundred acre island in the middle of the River Test in Hampshire. Water runs through the grounds producing fabulous reflections of your marquee lighting and offering a myriad of photo opportunities for creative photographers.
This ancient site has been home to four Saxon queens of England.
Wherwell is easily accessed from London and Heathrow (most of the journey is on the M3). It’s easily accessed for those in the north (being 15 minutes from the A34-A303 junction).
Access from the adjacent churchyard is literally through the garden gate! Fields available for car parking lead directly into the church car park, and on, through a traditional lynch gate, into the churchyard.
The lovely Victorian parish church of St Peter and Holy Cross has a longer aisle and bigger capacity than most village churches accommodating 200 people.
And there is a wealth and range of local accommodation available – even within walking distance.
